Piano lessons

A favourite starter instrument for the kids and I think I have the skill to keep them motivated. Lessons are fun and I soon have them playing tunes they love. It's a little challenging to read both music clefs at first, but then they are in a great position for adding further instruments to their repertoire later. Whilst primarily a piano teacher I can also teach the basic chords for those wishing to learning keyboard techniques. I currently work within a secondary and integrate chords to support pupils doing their composition element within BTEC music.

What age can my child start?

Each learner is unique, as is every child. The youngest pupils we have found ready, to date, have been 4 years of age. By 4 years they can enjoy the stories and games set in the Wunderkeys Series of tuition books. These books are well design to introduce concepts such as long and short notes, high and low pitch, using both hands, control of individual digits. Short periods of time can be spent at the piano, intersperse with listening games, counting games and talking through the exercises presented by the story characters e.g. Thumbelina Thumb and Middleton Mouse.
